Should you buy a gift for a hen party?
I was having a conversation with my mother-in-law recently, she was attending a hen party and wanted to know what gift to get the bride.
My first thoughts were hen parties are about fun and games not for guest to spend money on a present for a hen party, you can buy the bride-to-be a drink on the night but certainly not a present.
My stances are when the couple gets engaged as close friends and family we typically get an engagement present for the couple, we also buy the couple a wedding gift. During the process leading up to the wedding, there is a great deal of cost that as a guest we take on.
If you are part of the bridal party you may be asked to pay for the dress and shoes you’ll be wearing along with getting your hair, make-up and nails done. Depends on the type of hen party you’ll be asked to cover your cost for food and drinks as well as travelling cost, so for me, it’s a no to giving a gift at a hen party.
As a wedding guest you may decide to buy a new dress, shoes and fascinator for the wedding and if the couple is having a wedding where there is a cost per head, you may even be asked to pay for your meal and some weddings certainly don’t have a free bar, so you will be paying for your drinks all night.
Just as it’s pricey planning a wedding for your loved ones, it’s also quite pricey being a guest at a wedding.
So it’s a big no from me on the gift for a hen party, let me know what your thoughts are on this topic.
